Welche Bedeutung hat das Übersetzen für die Überlieferung von Philosophie? Im vorliegenden Sammelband wird diese Frage kontrovers diskutiert – aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven und anhand von konkreten Fällen. Ausgangspunkt dafür ist eine historische Konstellation als paradigmatisches Beispiel: die Überlieferung der akademischen Philosophie nach Japan am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts. Das Besondere an diesem Beispiel ist, dass die Übersetzung(en) ins Japanische die Begegnung mit der westlichen Philosophie dort eingeleitet hat. Ziel der hier versammelten Beiträge ist es, die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Überlieferung philosophischen Denkens durch Übersetzung näher zu bestimmen.
