In this ecumenically appealing book of faith planting and nurturing, by Dr. Joe Borowitz, I see a dance between Joe as a Sunday schoolteacher, other Sunday schoolteachers, and Sunday school students, their parents and the Church. Beginning on the personal level, Joe reaches out to the inter-personal. He privileges the personal level that emerges as author, professor, and moralist and shares suitable stories and life events. How powerful personal experiences can be! Dr. Joe underscores the primacy of God in human life, arguing that people function better when they have God at the center of their lives. He reminds us that the Resurrection is the most important event in human life. The Holy Spirit, he calls a superior "life force" that enlivens and sustains us. That all should welcome this book is thus obvious. To veteran teachers it will give a nostalgic feeling and satisfaction; to students in Sunday school and their parents, it will give a sense of dedication and direction as they embrace this journey of faith; and to the general reader both catholic and non-catholic it will bring to mind the place of CCD or Sunday school in faith planting.
