Produktinformationen "The Li'l Bronze Derby That Was!"
The Newberry College Indians and The Presbyterian College Blue Hose have been sports rivals since 1913. During the momentous season of 1947 a distinctive derby was stolen from a Presbyterian Yonkers. The derby was bronzed by a Newberry jewelry firm. Since that season until 2006, the winner of the annual Thanksgiving Day football game got the Bronze Derby trophy for the year. From the Dedication: To the football fans in Clinton and Newberry, Laurens and Newberry counties, and the state of South Carolina that attended the annual Thanksgiving Day Bronze Derby football game. You have represented your communities for over 100 years! A friendly fellowship was exhibited and existed between rivals. The game was always played to a capacity crowd. The students at Newberry College and Presbyterian College were home for the Thanksgiving Day holiday, yet you were there! There was beautiful weather, and even sometimes rain or snow, but you were there! Whether the game was played at Bailey Memorial Stadium in Clinton or Setzler Field in Newberry, you were there! The game was for you and your rival community! Enjoy the memories of your annual football classic!
