Alexander Lange Kielland (1849 - 1906) was one of the most significant and celebrated Norwegian realistic writers during the19th century, belonging to "The Four Greats" together with Jonas Lie, Henrik Ibsen, and Bjørnstjerne. Other notable works by this author include; "Garman & Worse" (1880), "Arbeidsfolk" (1881), and "Else" (1881). Contents include: "Pharaoh", "The Parsonage", "The Peat Moor", "'Hope's Clad in April Green'", "At the Fair", "Two Friends", "A Good Conscience", "Romance and Reality", "Withered Leaves", "The Battle of Waterloo".
