Russeting Fruits

Katherine Preza Leonor's Russeting Fruits is a call to the American people to wake up from the nightmare President Donald Trump's regime has created for everyone in the country. It is a collection of poems, short stories, and essays which navigate the reality of being a minority while dealing with political frustrations which trigger familial adversities such as addiction and contemplation of one's spiritual path. Containing themes of immigration rights and immigrant stories to give emphasis on the political pressure put upon Hispanic households, Russeting Fruits offers a different perspective to what it means to be in the United States. Outside of the American Dream, it shows how one's desire for opportunity and change fuels the motivation to continue living somewhere many people hope you are erased from. Russeting Fruits accounts stories of gang violence in El Salvador and the femicide epidemic in Mexico to list some reasons why immigrants leave their home countries. It is a refusal to stay silent, and in turn, becomes a counter-narrative to the hatred inflicted onto the Latine community. This collection will make you assess your own alignment to the beliefs the Republican party turned-borderline-fascist and the legacy the Trump administration will leave behind. We must come together now as a community to stand against this political oppresion.
