Over the past few years, industrial parts cleaning has increasingly faced challenging changes caused by changes in the product portfolio of important target industries, new production technologies and growing demands for automation and digitization of production processes. Technical cleanliness has been established as a clear quality feature for many years. However, automated quality monitoring and digital process control methods are often still a challenge for cleaning processes. On the other hand, artificial intelligence and machine learning offer new, far from exhausted possibilities for industrial parts cleaning. In addition to highly efficient cleaning technologies for the realization of the required product properties, the constantly increasing requirements for the cleanliness of surfaces and components also require a seamless integration of these processes and the associated peripherals into the entire production chain. In this already demanding and changing market environment, another economic challenge for industrial parts cleaning arose at the beginning of 2020 due to the start of the global corona pandemic. Investigated to record the current market situation and future trends in the field of industrial parts cleaning the cleaning division at Fraunhofer entered the market for the third time after 2007 and 2012.
