Catherine Kaplan owns the ad agency that has just landed a contract with LifeGames Corporation, a company that dominates high technology and much more. LifeGames operates Immersive Virtual Reality simulation systems that are run by Artificial Intelligence. Each candidate begins their simulation with an automated hypnosis sequence that makes them believe that the simulation is reality. Governments, militaries and businesses have become so reliant on LifeGames to train their executives that the company is said to control the very future of mankind. The training technique has been fabulously profitable and Kenneth Torrington, founder and CEO of LifeGames, has become wealthy beyond imagining and powerful beyond grasp. But something sinister lies deep and hidden within the system that Torrington has built, something even beyond his imagining. When Torrington makes his play to levy the real price for granting Catherine her lucrative contract, they are plunged into a new realm of mutual destruction that threatens to pull everything down with it.
