Kirche des Wortes

Kirche nach evangelischem Verständnis ist Kirche des Wortes. Darin besteht bei allen konfessionellen Differenzen die gemeinsame Grundüberzeugung der aus der Reformation des 16. Jahrhunderts hervorgegangenen Kirchen. Welche Wirkungen und welche Wirkmacht das Evangelium auch heute entfaltet, ist Thema des vorliegenden Buches. Gegenwärtig mehren sich allerdings Stimmen, die die Kirche des Wortes, jedenfalls in ihrer volkskirchlichen Gestalt, am Ende sehen. Manche plädieren dafür, auf den Begriff der Kirche zu verzichten und stattdessen lieber nur noch von vielfältigen Gestalten des Christseins als Lebensform zu sprechen. Das vorliegende Buch nennt Gründe, weshalb auch das Christentum von morgen nicht ohne den Begriff Kirche auskommt, so plural seine heutigen und künftigen Gestalten auch sein mögen. [Church of the Word. Effects and Effectiveness of the Gospel] The church, according to the Protestant understanding, is the church of the Word. In spite of all confessional differences, this position constitutes the shared fundamental conviction of the churches which emerged from the Reformation of the 16th century. The subject of this book are the effects and the effectiveness that the Gospel still has today. Nevertheless, in the present context, many voices claim that the church of the Word, at least as it is embodied by national churches, has come to an end. Some propose to give up on the concept of the church altogether and would rather speak of diverse instantiations of Christianity as a form of life. This book expounds the reasons why even the Christianity of tomorrow cannot do without the concept of the church, regardless of how plural its current and future concretions may be.
