Kaguya – the daughter of the moon – is the oldest fairy tale in Japan, written down around 900. Princess Kaguya is raised as a tiny foundling by a bamboo collector and grows up with him into a radiant beauty. Five noble suitors compete for her, but all fail because of the superhuman task Kaguya sets for each of them. Even the emperor cannot win her over. In the end, Kaguya returns as a supernatural being to the palace of the moon, her home from which she came to earth.
