Eleven-year-old Jake Reynolds dreams of saving seal pups from the talons of bald eagles, protecting his little sister Sierra and confronting the wolf he is sure stalks Hidalgo Island. His best friend Emily, who calls him a chicken, insists there are no wolves on the island. Jake is determined to prove her wrong, but when he and Emily go in search of adventure he finds more than he bargained for-and discovers things about himself that he never knew existed.
