Kroatien hat sich mit der Jahreswende 2022 auf 2023 von der Kuna verabschiedet, und seit dem 1. Januar 2023 die Euro-Währung eingeführt. Mit dem Abgang der Kuna gehört nun ein Teil der kroatischen Geldgeschichte der Vergangenheit an. In ihrer aktuellen Form erst 1994 in Umlauf gekommen, werden viele traurig sein, sie verschwinden zu sehen, darunter auch der in Australien lebende Numismatiker Dusty Dragicevic. „Eine nationale Währung ist eine mächtige und symbolische Projektion der nationalen Identität, und diese gehört nun der Geschichte an. Mir gefällt das Aussehen der Kuna-Banknoten sehr gut und ich persönlich finde das Design der Euros ziemlich langweilig. Eigentlich sehr langweilig“, sagte er uns. Dragicevic hat rechtzeitig zur Euro-Umstellung ein Buch über die Geschichte der kroatischen Banknoten veröffentlicht, das einen faszinierenden und tiefen Einblick in die numismatische Geschichte Kroatiens bietet, und gleichzeitig den Einblick in die reiche alte Geschichte Kroatiens nicht unkommentiert lässt. „Kroatische Banknoten: Eine Standardreferenz“ ist, als Soft-Cover Ausgabe, auf über 175 farbigen Seiten, A4-Format illustriert und deckt alle kroatischen Banknotenausgaben vom Zweiten Weltkrieg bis heute ab, einschließlich aller Fantasieausgaben und Druckproben.
