Camille Saint-Saëns - Cavatine für Posaune und Klavier op. 144

Camille Saint-Saëns was always trying to expand the rather sparse repertoire for chamber music for wind instruments, something that is not least also shown by his three late wind sonatas for oboe, clarinet and bassoon respectively (HN 964, 965, 966). The trombone also came into its own as a solo instrument with the Cavatine, composed in 1915. It displays here its lyrical, romantic side. To date the Cavatine, an effective recital piece, is a milestone in the solo literature for advanced trombone players. Our Urtext edition is the first to take into account also the autograph in Paris. Comme le montrent notamment aussi ses trois sonates tardives respectivement pour hautbois, clarinette et basson (HN 964, 965, 966), Camille Saint-Saëns a toujours été soucieux d’élargir le répertoire plutôt maigre de musique de chambre pour vents. Même le trombone n’est pas oublié avec la Cavatine, composée en 1915. L’instrument se montre ici plutôt sous son jour lyrique et romantique. Morceau faisant tout son effet, la Cavatine est aujourd’hui encore bien ancrée dans le répertoire pour trombonistes avancés. Notre édition Urtext est la première à tenir également compte de l’autographe conservé à Paris. Camille Saint-Saëns war in seinem Schaffen stets auch darauf bedacht, das eher schmale Repertoire für Bläserkammermusik zu erweitern, wovon nicht zuletzt seine drei späten Bläsersonaten für Oboe, Klarinette bzw. Fagott zeugen (HN 964, 965, 966). Auch die Posaune kommt mit der 1915 entstandenen Cavatine zu ihrem solistischen Recht. Sie zeigt sich hier von ihrer lyrisch-romantischen Seite. Als wirkungsvolles Vortragsstück gehört die Cavatine bis heute zu den Marksteinen in der Sololiteratur für fortgeschrittene Posaunisten. Unsere Urtextausgabe stützt sich als erste auch auf das in Paris aufbewahrte Autograph.
