Cahiers d'Art has fostered innovation within the European avant-garde for a century; this retrospective work celebrates its vision and contributions to the world of art. Founded in Paris in 1926 as a publishing house, gallery, and art journal, Cahiers d'Art quickly established itself as a vital platform for the most influential artists, poets, and critical thinkers of the twentieth century. From the earliest issues of La Revue, the editors championed trailblazing artists such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Wassily Kandinsky Over time, it expanded to feature Marcel Duchamp, Kazimir Malevich, and members of the Surrealist movement-including Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Dorothea Tanning, and Meret Oppenheim-often accompanied by essays from literary and philosophical luminaries such as Samuel Beckett, Georges Bataille, and Jacques Lacan. Experimental photographers like Dora Maar and Man Ray contributed powerful images, reinforcing the journal's reputation as a groundbreaking visual and intellectual forum.
