BREATH AND MEMBRANE

Der als Faltbuch gestaltete Katalog BREATH AND MEMBRANE ist eine Fortsetzung von SCORES AND SCULPTURES, erschienen 2019 im Distanz Verlag. Er besteht aus zwei gefalteten Postern, deren Vorderseiten von einem elastischen Band zusammengehalten werden, sodass ein Leporello entsteht. BREATH AND MEMBRANE stellt zwei zentrale Arbeiten von Stella Geppert vor: COMMUNICATION CAPTURES (2019) und den INSIDE T-Zyklus (2020/22). In ihnen beschäftigt sich die Künstlerin mit empathischer Verbundenheit und energetischen Zuständen verkörperter Kommunikation. Die Atmung wird als plastisches Material zum Aufladen des Raumes eingesetzt und Kopfbewegungen werden unmittelbar mittels Körperorthesen aufgezeichnet. Stella Gepperts zeichnerisches, choreografisches und performatives Werk setzt das Medium der Zeichnung als skulpturale Spur und Abrieb menschlicher Interaktion ein. Die Fähigkeit des Körpers, sich sensuell in den Raum, Körper und Substanz hineinzuversetzen, ist ein wichtiger Aspekt der Arbeit Stella Gepperts. Sie betrachtet den menschlichen Körper anhand seiner biologischen Verfasstheit als fragile und verletzliche Membran, die im ständigen kommunikativen Austausch mit anderen Körpern und Lebewesen inbegriffen ist. BREATH AND MEMBRANE präsentiert anhand der Arbeiten COMMUNICATION CAPTURES und INSIDE-T textuell und in Bildern Stella Gepperts Untersuchung kommunikativer Potentiale und unsichtbarer Verhaltensweisen des menschlichen Körpers und wie sie diese in ihren jüngeren Arbeiten intensiviert. The BREATH AND MEMBRANE catalog, designed as a folding book, is a sequel to SCORES AND SCULPTURES, published by Distanz Verlag in 2019. It contains two posters folded into booklets and held together by an elastic band to create a fanfold. BREATH AND MEMBRANE presents two of Stella Geppert`s central works: COMMUNICATION CAPTURES (2019) and the INSIDE T cycle (2020/22). Within these works the artist explores empathic connection and energetic states of embodied communication. Breathing is used as a sculptural material to energize the space, and intuitive head movements are recorded immediately by body orthoses. Stella Geppert's graphic, choreographic and performative work uses the medium of drawing as a sculptural trace and abrasion of human interaction. The body's ability to sensuously enter into space, body and substance is an important aspect of Stella Geppert's work. Based on its biological constitution, she views the human body as a fragile and vulnerable membrane that is involved in a constant communicative exchange with other bodies and living beings. BREATH AND MEMBRANE showcases the works COMMUNICATION CAPTURES and INSIDE-T to present Stella Geppert's investigation of communicative potentials and invisible behaviors of the human body as text and images, and how she intensifies these in her more recent works.
