A New Kind of Computational Biology

· The book is a self contained introduction of Cellular Automata (CA) and its applications on modeling of biological strings, proposing a 'New Kind of Computational Biology'. Book readership will cover students, academic researchers and industry practitioners of Computer Science and Computational Biology exploring new and innovative ways to address the challenges in Computational Biology. The methods and results reported are compilation of academic and industry challenges currently facing the world of Bioinformatics. Emphasis has been directed to the plethora of applications in the drug design and bio-molecule industry, the authors have been exposed to with their startup, CARLBio besides the academic and research flavour for this book. The algorithms are presented to ensure that a reader with basic knowledge of Computer programming and Biology can implement the steps in a 'Do It Yourself" approach. Executable programs for major modules will be hosted in Springer's Web Site. It will enable students to develop their own research projects. Even though the book is focused on CA based Computational Biology, the authors with multidisciplinary domain exposure have ensured that readers can employ CA methodologies and models for the study of different application domains of their interest. As the book proposes a new kind of computational biology, efforts have been directed to report the methods in a descriptive fashion, to ensure that the readership expands to cover the researchers and practitioners interested to advance and explore beyond what is presented in the book.
