A A Galloway Year

A Galloway Year is a celebration of Galloway’s landscapes and wildlife, from the vast, muddy Solway to the woods and farms, the rushing burns and silver lochs, up into the heather-clad hills. More than that, it is a plea for us to value what remains of our wilder land and to do our utmost to protect it.    Galloway is off the beaten track, tucked away in the south-west corner of Scotland. Travellers flock to the Lake District just across the Solway. Or they are pulled north, past Glasgow, to the revered Highlands and Islands. They are all missing out. Those who live here know that Galloway has its own unique charm and character.  A Galloway Year has been written by an artist and a naturalist who found their way to this forgotten corner of Britain. Our landscapes are under increasing pressure. Galloway has fared better than much of Britain, holding on to more than its share of countryside rich in wildlife. But here too, the more-than-human world is being pushed into ever-smaller remnants of wilder land. We would do well to look after these places, for the benefit of the wild creatures that live there and for the sake of our own fraying souls.  This beautiful book will give readers a broad introduction to Galloway’s landscapes and wildlife, and the pressing issues that are impacting on them.
